Avapro
What is Avapro?
If you are one of the millions of people suffering from hypertension or high blood pressure, as it is also known as, you may have been prescribed a drug like Avapro.
As well as it’s uses as a cardiovascular drug, Avapro can be used for weight loss if obesity is a serious health concern. Avapro falls into the category of drugs known as angiotensin II receptor antagonists.
High Blood Pressure Explained
Imagine you have turned on your garden hose. You place your thumb over the end and two things happen:
One- the amount of water flow is restricted, and
Two- The water gushes out at considerable speed and with a great increase of pressure.
Your blood flow experiences similar results when the muscles in the walls of your blood vessels contract. Pressure goes up, blood flow slows, and your poor old heart has to work so much harder to pump that vital fluid through your body.
That’s why hypertension is so dangerous and should not be left untreated. It can lead to heart failure and stroke (among other conditions)
How Avapro Works:
Avapro works by regulating a hormone your body produces called Angiotensin II.
This busy little hormone has many functions including:
Fluid and salt retention
Vasoconstriction
Cell division and;
Narrowing of blood vessels. Avapro helps the blood vessels to relax so your blood pressure goes down.
The benefits:
1 High blood pressure and hypertension can be treated very effectively with this medication. Avapro delivers quick results with an immediate and noticeable reduction in symptoms.
2 It can be used alone or prescribed with various other medications to manage your blood pressure.
3 Studies show Avapro can help avoid possible dangers to the kidneys of people suffering from type II diabetes. It enhances the health of the kidneys and can delays the need for treatments such as dialysis and kidney transplants.
4 For the most effective results, Avapro must been taken on a consistent and regular basis. It is essential to maintain long-term treatment with this medication as high blood pressure may show decreases gradually.
5 High blood pressure can be treated but cannot, as yet, be cured. It is important to continue the medication regimen even after you are feeling better as ceasing treatment will cause the condition to return.
As with other medications, Avapro reduces the risk of diseases caused by high blood pressure or hypertension. However, it must be consumed regularly as the symptoms of high blood pressure often are not noticeable to the patient even though the condition is present.
Usage:
The medicine should be taken the same time every day. It can be with or without food. If you miss a dose of Avapro, take it as soon as possible. If it is time for the next dosage, the patient can skip the missed dosage and return to his or her normal medicine schedule. For specific prescription instructions, refer to your doctor and pharmacist.
Potential side-effects:
Diarrhea, infections of the respiratory tract, and extreme fatigue are some of the common side-effects.
People using Avapro for kidney disease linked to type II diabetes report dizziness and low blood pressure as the most common side effects.
Some Precautions:
If you experience an allergic reaction, cease useof this drug immediately nad consult your doctor.
Although very rare, Avapro can cause an extreme drop in the blood pressure of a patient. This side effect largely arises in patients who are using diuretics and have low body water content.
A doctor should be consulted before beginning usage by patients having kidney troubles.
