<p>Well, high blood pressure, also known as &#8220;hypertension&#8221;, the &#8220;silent disease&#8221; or the &#8220;silent killer&#8221; is the measure of pressure that the blood exerts against the wall of your arteries as your heart pumps.</p>
<p>There are people who have dangerously high blood pressure and yet they don&#8217;t know it because there are no symptoms for weeks, months, or even years.</p>
<p>But high blood pressure is a dangerous condition and complications can be very serious. You see, as the heart pumps the blood through the walls of arteries that have lost their elasticity, the heart has to work much harder to push the blood through them.</p>
<p>Because the blood needs to go through every organ in the body as well, the pressure affects not only the arteries, but the heart, liver, and lungsevery important organ in the body.</p>

<p>There has been news lately saying that overweight people might not be at risk of high blood pressure and heart disease as was previously thought.</p>
<p>Yes, it seems that a recent study by researchers of obesity has reported that the stereotype that we&#8217;ve all come to accept is simply not accurate.</p>
<p>Surprisingly, and contrary to everything we&#8217;ve thought and believed for years, this study indicates that about half of all overweight people have normal blood pressure and cholesterol levels.</p>
<p>It now looks as if half of all obese people are actually considered to be otherwise healthy.</p>
<p>This national study has also cast a shadow over the overall health of the thinner portion of the population by reporting that an amazing one-half of thinner and visually &#8220;fit&#8221; people are at risk for high blood pressure and heart disease.</p>
<p>Fifty one percent of the obese people had rather normal blood pressure, blood sugar, triglyceride and cholesterol levels while over a quarter of their thinner counterparts, (those falling within the recommended height and weight range) were reported to have elevated levels of at least two of these factors.</p>
<p>Those that were of healthy weight and had high blood pressure were those that had a larger waist measurement.  This signifies that internal fat deposits surrounding the abdominal organs were responsible for the greatly increased risk.</p>
<p>While there have always been exceptions in either category, this is the first time that a national health study has reported literally millions of exceptions to what has long been considered the &#8220;norm&#8221; of society.</p>
<p>With a growing debate over a standardized method of calculating what is &#8220;overweight&#8221;, many in the medical research industry are now pointing to waist size as being a more critical factor that mere weight in controlling these factors including blood pressure.</p>
<p>While this is definitely good news to so many people, it is also a shocking wake up call to those who felt immune to the disease based on the fact that they had thinness on their side.  Regardless of height or weight, everyone should monitor their blood pressure regularly as a precaution and preventive measure.</p>
<p>Several tips are offered here which you can follow to help you attain the most accurate blood pressure reading.  These are the following:</p>
<p>-Stay away from caffeine and nicotine for at least half an hour prior to a blood pressure test is to be taken.</p>
<p>-Wear short sleeves so that the upper arm can be exposed with little or no effort.</p>
<p>-Sit quietly with your back supported, both feet flat on the floor, and arms resting on a table at heart level for at least five minutes prior to the test.</p>
<p>-Always have your blood pressure tested when your bladder is empty. A full and uncomfortable bladder can easily skew a blood pressure reading.</p>
<p>-Ask for two readings, two minutes apart so that you may get an average.</p>
<p>Regardless of age, height, weight, or waist size, one thing is true, and that is preventing high blood pressure can only happen with proper and frequent monitoring.</p>

<p>Blood pressure is called &#8220;hypertension&#8221; in the medical world.  When your blood pressure is consistently above the ideal 120/80, you are generally considered &#8220;hypertensive&#8221;.  A high blood pressure is genetically predisposed in some individuals, but aside from genes, there are other factors that also contribute to it.</p>
<p>To help you better understand high blood pressure, it&#8217;s a good idea to know what hypertension really is. When your blood pressure is taken, what&#8217;s actually being measured is the amount of pressure your blood is exerting against the walls of your blood vessels. Of course the higher the number, the more pressure is being forced against those walls.</p>
<p>Think of a balloon being filled with water. As more and more water fills the balloon, it stretches to accommodate it&#8230;to a point. As it gets very full, you can easily see the balloon thinning out, and if you continue putting water into it, eventually it will stretch itself to the breaking point.</p>
<p>Same is true with your blood vessels.  They can and will burst if you let your blood pressure get too high and remain there unchecked.  Where the vessel bursts will determine the severity of the results.  Vessels bursting in the brain will make you suffer a stroke.  Vessels in the heart will make you suffer a heart attack or suffer complete heart failure.</p>
<p>This is why high blood pressure is often called the &#8217;silent killer&#8217;. You may feel fine and have no symptoms whatsoever&#8230;until the pressure becomes so great that it causes a life-threatening episode.</p>
<p>The top number of a blood pressure reading, or the systolic pressure, measures the pressure within the blood vessels with each &#8216;beat&#8217; of the heart as it pumps blood out.  The bottom number, or the diastolic pressure, measures the pressure within the blood vessels in between beats, when your heart is temporarily at rest.</p>
<p>Of the two numbers, the bottom number is often seen as more critical.  If your diastolic pressure is over the ideal number of 80, this means that extreme pressure is being exerted on your vessels, even when your heart is at rest.  With high blood pressure, the spurting force of the blood as it leaves the heart the next time could be the one that proves to be too much.</p>
<p>So if you have high blood pressure, what can you do to lower it?  Lose weight if you are overweight,  reduce or remove the causes of stress in your life, quit smoking, and exercise more.</p>
<p>Or you can do something easier, but is quicker and just as effective. <p>INTRODUCTION: High blood pressure aka hypertension means elevated pressure (tension) in the arteries. It does not mean excessive emotional tension, although emotional tension and stress can temporarily elevate your blood pressure.</p>
<p>Hypertension rarely has any symptoms, but it can create serious problems such as stroke, heart failure, heart attack and kidney failure.</p>
<p>It forces the heart to work much harder and can damage the arteries, causing them to narrow faster. It can also harm many parts of the body and is a major health problem in the US affecting 1/3 of Americans or 65 million persons, according to the American Heart Association (AHA).</p>
<p>HYPERTENSION: Most commonly referred to as &#8220;high blood pressure&#8221;, HTN or HPN, is a medical condition in which the blood pressure is chronically elevated and is considered to be present when a person&#8217;s systolic blood pressure is consistently 140 mmHg or greater, and/or their diastolic blood pressure is consistently 90 mmHg or greater.</p>
<p>It can be classified as either essential (primary) or secondary and is one of the most common complex disorders, with genetic implication averaging 30%. Hypertension can be a temporary or lifelong disease, depending on the cause and is dangerous because it causes the heart to work extra hard.</p>
<p>Pre-hypertension is blood pressure between 120 and 139 for the higher number, or between 80 and 89 for the lower number. For example, blood pressure readings of 138/82, 128/89, or 130/86 are all in the pre-hypertension category. If your blood pressure is in the pre-hypertension category, it is more likely that you will eventually have hypertension unless you take action to prevent it. If you have this kind of high blood pressure, you may not have to take medication.</p>
<p>HEART: Some people may not find out they have HBP until they have trouble with their heart, brain, or kidneys. When it is not found and treated, it can cause the heart to get larger, which may lead to heart failure. With HBP, the heart works harder, your arteries take a beating, and your chances of a stroke, heart attack, and kidney problems are greater.</p>
<p>If you don&#8217;t have hypertension by age 55, you have a 90 % chance of developing it at some point during your life, according to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. If left untreated, it will cause the heart to eventually overwork itself to the point at which serious damage can happen. About 1/2 of people having first-time heart attacks and two-thirds of people having first-time strokes suffer from hypertension.</p>
<p>It has been shown that laughing heartily 100 times each day gives the same heart benefits as working out for 20 minutes?</p>
<p>TREATMENT: Treatment is focused on lowering water retention and reducing blood pressure to normal levels. When you first start treatment, your doctor may want you to come to the office regularly. He/she will review the information with you and decide if your treatment program is effective or if you need to make changes to it.</p>
<p>Among the 61 percent who are under going treatment, only 35% have their blood pressure adequately controlled. For specific medical advice, diagnoses, and treatment, see your doctor.</p>
<p>CONCLUSION: High blood pressure is called the silent killer because it often has no symptoms and is a risk factor for heart and kidney disease and stroke. High blood pressure is not evenly spread throughout the population and happens disproportionately more often in minority communities.</p>
<p>High blood pressure rates are also growing among American children, paralleling an epidemic of obesity. Hypertension in grownups will usually be measured on at least two different trips to the doctor before a diagnosis is made. It can be treated by both modifying lifestyles, usually as the first step, and, if necessary, with medications. Diuretics work in the kidney and flush out excess water and sodium from the body.</p>
<p>Nearly 1/3 American adults have high blood pressure. Once It develops, it usually lasts a lifetime. Fortunately, it can be easily diagnosed, and once you are aware you have it, you can work with your doctor to control it.</p>

Heart failure, kidney failure or stroke can occur as a result of high blood pressure. </p>
<p> Bring overweight along with hypertension increases ones chances of developing one or more of these conditions. The older you are, the more likely you are to develop hypertension unless you take multiple steps to prevent it from happening. Carrying too much body weight as a young person predisposes one to hypertension later in life. It has also been thought that hypertension is inherited, which makes the situation more difficult to prevent.</p>
<p> Because the symptoms are not readily apparent, you may not even know that you have hypertension. Assume that you are a candidate for high blood pressure if you are over 40, if there is history of this in your family and if you are overweight. </p>
<p> If you are at high risk for hypertension, you should remove sodium from your diet. Try to avoid stressful situations, and check your blood pressure at least once per month. We all know that work environments may be boiling cauldrons of stress inducers. </p>
<p> This non-curable disease can be made worse by a number of other factors such as smoking, being overweight, alcohol consumption, and various social or psychological issues. It&#8217;s important to know that anyone can develop hypertension. People from every socio-economic background are affected. Damage to the heart, kidneys and brain can occur, depending upon the severity of the condition. </p>
<p> In spite of all the precautions taken by you to control your blood pressure, it is possible that you blood pressure may still remain at an unhealthy, high level. The decision of prescribing medication is entirely dependent on the doctor and whether he or she feels it is needed. Some of the drugs can cause side effects, while others can be tolerated more easily. You should not discontinue your prescribed medication because you start to feel better. This can be very dangerous because often hypertension does not present with any noticeable symptoms.</p>
<p> Following a proper diet that does not have sodium in it, altering your lifestyle to have less stress, and other factors allows you to control it. Good health is priceless; don&#8217;t allow physical or emotional stress to adversely affect your blood pressure. Men are more prone to hypertension, yet most do not know they have it. If you take care of your health, your health will take care of you.</p>

<p>Blood pressure is a measure of the pressure inside your blood vessels &#8212; both while the heart is beating and while it is relaxed. Naturally, high blood pressure is when the pressure within your blood vessels is too high. This is also known as hypertension. As blood is pumped from your heart into your vessels, enough pressure is created to send it to all other parts of your body.To measure your blood pressure, a fabric cuff is wrapped around your arm and then slightly inflated. The blood pressure shows up on a gauge attached to the cuff.</p>
<p>This requires, at the very least, an inflatable cuff with a pressure gauge sphygmomanometer. Wind the cuff round the arm (which should be at about heart level) and inflate it to a pressure higher than the expected blood pressure. Then deflate the cuff slowly. With a stethoscope, listen over the brachial artery. When the cuff reaches systolic pressure, a clear tapping sound is heard in time with the heart beat. As the cuff deflates further, the sounds become quieter, but become louder again before disappearing altogether. The point at which the sounds disappear is the diastolic pressure.</p>
<p>Blood pressure readings are expressed as two numbers, such as 140/90 mm Hg. The top number, 140, refers to systolic blood pressure and 90 refers to diastolic blood pressure. Both of these numbers are important. More than half of all persons age 65 have hypertension. In many, only the systolic blood pressure will be elevated. This is often refered to as isolated systolic hypertension. Treating high systolic blood pressure in older patients significantly decreases the risks for stroke, heart attack, and cardiovascular death.</p>
<p>In hypertension the increased pressure in the blood vessels damages the vessel walls, causing bleedingand blood clot formation. This causes particularly severe problems if blood vessels in the eye, kidney,heart or brain are affected. In addition when blood pressure is high the heart has to pump against a greaterresistance and this places increased strain on the heart muscle.</p>

<p>High blood pressure, which is also referred to as hypertension, is often called the &#8217;silent killer&#8217; because it is a potentially fatal condition that develops gradually over a number of years often without displaying any signs or symptoms of the condition at all. Because of its lack of signs and symptoms, high blood pressure can often go undiagnosed and therefore untreated.</p>
<p>It was estimated that in the region of 50 million adults in the United States were suffering from high blood pressure in the early 1990&#8217;s and this figure has been climbing steadily ever since. By the turn of this century it was estimated that in the region of 65 million people were suffering from high blood pressure and today that figure is now over 72 million. In other words, approximately one in three adults in the United States today is suffering from high blood pressure.</p>
<p>This is what some recent studies have revealed:</p>
<p>30% of people with high blood pressure are not aware of their condition and are therefore not receiving any treatment.</p>
<p>15% of the people are aware that they have hypertension but are either not getting treatment for it or do not bother to follow their recommended treatment.</p>
<p>25% of high blood pressure sufferers are aware of their condition but do not at present have their condition under control.</p>
<p>What this means is that only about 30% of those people with hypertension are presently receiving the correct treatment and have the condition under control.</p>
<p>Even though it has often been said that it is not possible to tell if someone has high blood pressure there are some tell-tale signs that may indicate that you have hypertension.  Some of these symptoms include headaches, blurred vision, dizziness and nausea.</p>
<p>High blood pressure is a major cause of death in the US today and it raises considerably the risk from a number of life threatening conditions such as heart failure, heart attack, cardiovascular disease and kidney failure.</p>
<p>Because of the nature of this condition it is a good idea to keep an eye on things by monitoring your blood pressure regularly and this can be done by simply visiting your doctor&#8217;s office and asking for a blood pressure check. This is not however all that convenient and so a better option today is to simply monitor your own pressure at home. There are a variety of monitors available today for use at home which are both quick and easy to use and are also relatively inexpensive.</p>
<p>Using your own blood pressure monitor at home means that you can keep an eye on the whole family&#8217;s blood pressure giving you considerable peace of mind and allowing you to detect any developing problems early so that they can be easily treated.</p>

<p>Today, I beg you to let go of prejudgments and propaganda produced by the traditional health business and apply your common sense. That&#8217;s the one thing that never lies.</p>
<p>What do I mean by that?</p>
<p>The answer is simple. If you read any official health site, what&#8217;s the first and main point they try to pressure?</p>
<p>They try to convince you, the only effective method to deal with hypertension is using prescription drugs. Other things, like exercising and changing diet, may be dealt with in a paragraph or two. But the main focus is on the important of medications.</p>
<p>And like it wasn&#8217;t enough to be put on medication. They also claim, you&#8217;ll have to be on these medication ( and suffer all the side effects)  for the rest of your life.</p>
<p>And what do they claim to be the cause for hypertension?</p>
<p>No1 &#8230; They don&#8217;t know</p>
<p>No2 &#8230; Genetic reasons</p>
<p>No3 &#8230; Relationships with other diseases</p>
<p>And one more time, the treatment&#8230;</p>
<p>Medications, Medications, Medication!</p>
<p>Even if the doctors &#8220;treating&#8221; hypertension admit, they most often don&#8217;t have any idea what really causes this condition, they refuse to look at any other method than drugs.</p>
<p>But you don&#8217;t have to be a rocket scientist to figure out what really causes hypertension.</p>
<p>You&#8217;ve probably often experienced your blood pressure roar, haven&#8217;t you? Weren&#8217;t you engaged in a very stressful situation when this happened?</p>
<p>When your body raises your blood pressure, it&#8217;s actually doing exactly what it should be doing. You see, in a stressful situations, your body jumps into an &#8220;Emergency&#8221; flight or fight mood.</p>
<p>This is a mechanism, responsible for saving the lives of your forefathers. It was (and still is) essential to be able to run away from or fight predators. When you reach flight or fight mood, your muscles get tense and your blood pressure roars.</p>

<p>We have the internal pressure of reaching &#8220;a life standard&#8221;. And the dread of not being able to fulfill it. Money dread is probably the biggest stress factor in the modern world and most likely kills more people than any other thing.</p>
<p>I only take &#8220;life standard dread&#8221; as an example. Any pressure you&#8217;re stressed about, raises your blood pressure. These nagging worries just won&#8217;t let us alone.</p>
<p>So what can you do? There is very limited chance to drastically change the world. But you can take a few minutes brake!</p>
<p>And it&#8217;s actually quite easy. Giving your mind a few minutes focused brake is all it needs to recover. Your blood pressure drops drastically during these few minutes and stays down for a long time afterwards. You&#8217;ll feel relax and happy.</p>
<p>Most people who practice my high blood pressure exercises are back to normal blood pressure within a week and totally off any medication. Even those suffering from ski-rocking high hypertension.</p>

Nearly half of all older Americans have hypertension. This disease makes people five times more prone to strokes, three times more likely to have a heart attack, and two to three times more likely to experience a heart failure.</p>
<p>The problem with this disease is that nearly one third of the folks who have hypertension do not know it because they never feel any direct pain. But overtime the force of that pressure damages the inside surface of your blood vessels. </p>
<p>However, according to experts, hypertension is not predestined. Reducing salt intake, adopting a desirable dietary pattern losing weight and exercising can all help prevent hypertension.</p>
<p>Obviously, quitting bad habits and eating a low fat diet will help, but the most significant part that you can do is to exercise. And just as exercise strengthens and improves limb muscles, it also enhances the health of the heart muscles. </p>
<p><strong>Heart and Exercise</strong></p>
<p>The exercise stimulates the development of new connections between the impaired and the nearly normal blood vessels, so people who exercise had a better blood supply to all the muscle tissue of the heart.</p>
<p>The human heart basically, supply blood to an area of the heart damaged in a “myocardial infarction.” A heart attack is a condition, in which, the myocardium or the heart muscle does not get enough oxygen and other nutrients and so it begins to die.</p>

<p>Sometimes abnormalities of the kidney are responsible. There is also a study wherein the researchers identified more common contributing factors such as heredity, obesity, and lack of physical activity. And so, what can be done to lower blood pressure and avoid the risk of developing hypertension? Again, exercise seems to be just what the doctor might order.</p>
<p>If you think that is what he will do, then, try to contemplate on this list and find some ways how you can incorporate these things into your lifestyle and start to live a life free from the possibilities of developing hypertension. <p>Start at a low, comfortable level of exertion and progress gradually. The program is designed in two stages to allow for a progressive increase in activity.<br />

<p>Determine your safety limit for exertion. Use some clues such as sleep problems or fatigue the day after a workout to check on whether you are overdoing it. Once identified, stay within it. Over-exercising is both dangerous and unnecessary. </p>
<p><strong>4. Exercise regularly </strong></p>
<p>You need to work out a minimum of three times a week and a maximum of five times a week to get the most benefit. Once you are in peak condition, a single workout a week can maintain the muscular benefits. However, cardiovascular fitness requires more frequent activity.</p>
<p><strong>5. Exercise at a rate within your capacity</strong></p>
<p>The optimum benefits for older exercisers are produced by exercise at 40% to 60% of capacity.</p>
<p>Indeed, weight loss through exercise is an excellent starting point if you want to prevent hypertension. Experts say that being overweight is linked to an increased risk of developing hypertension, and losing weight decreases the risk.</p>

<p>An increase in blood (plasma) volume and a fall in blood pressure are usually observed in normal pregnancy. So when any pregnant woman’s blood pressure is above the normal range, it is abnormal.</p>
<p>Hypertension in pregnancy is defined as a diastolic blood pressure of 90 mmHg or more. It complicates 5 to 7 percent of pregnancies and is a major cause of inadequate fetal growth, lack of oxygen supply to fetus, neonatal complications and death, and maternal complications and death. Therefore, pregnancy complicated by hypertension does pose a risk to both the fetus and the mother.</p>
<p>A family history of hypertension, extremes of reproductive age, first pregnancy, multiple gestation, hydatidiform mole (a form of pregnancy tumor), diabetes, kidney disease, and hypertension prior to pregnancy are some of the factors that may contribute to the development of hypertension during pregnancy.</p>

<p>Hypertension can occur in 1 of the 3 forms. It can be present before conception occurs and is commonly known as pre-existing hypertension. It may occur after 20 weeks’ gestation and experts name this as gestational hypertension with or without preeclampsia/eclampsia. Or, it can exist as a combination of the two. Preeclampsia/eclampsia is a form of pregnancy disorder that affects blood pressure as well as the brain, kidney, liver and blood.</p>
<p>The control of severe hypertension in pregnancy (that is blood pressure higher than 170/110 mmHg) is essential and should be done immediately. This will prevent maternal death from bleeding in the brain (cerebral hemorrhage) and eclampsia. The need to control mild hypertension in pregnant mothers is less evident, but treatment of mild hypertension has been shown to reduce the subsequent development of severe high blood pressure. Nevertheless, its value in preventing fetal loss or development of eclampsia remains unproven.</p>
<p>Pregnant women with hypertension are usually asked to rest in bed and take <a href="http://www.aclepsa.com/adalat.shtml?id=7376">antihypertensive medications</a>. Restriction of dietary sodium is generally not advised. In view of the potential risks of medication to the unborn child, many ‘old’ but ‘safe’ drugs (such as methyldopa, hydralazine, labetalol, nifedipine) are often used. Some newer antihypertensive medications such as ACE inhibitors and ARBs are not recommended because of the possible ill effects to the fetus.</p>
<p>Occasionally, medical delivery is required to control hypertension or its possible complications. A multi-disciplinary approach combining the expertise of an obstetrician, a physician, a neonatologist and a nurse is usually required for the optimal care of a hypertensive mother with complications.</p>
